SCENE 01 / STEADICAM GIMBAL OPERATION
Steadicam & Gimbal Services
Professional stabilized camera operation for smooth, dynamic shots across Italy.
Steadicam and gimbal systems deliver smooth, stabilized camera movement that follows the action through busy spaces. Whether tracking through Rome's ancient Colosseum or working Cinecittà's famous sound stages, these tools cut out vibration and shake. That lets operators pull off fluid tracking shots, walk-and-talks, and complex choreographed sequences with cinematic precision.
We connect you with skilled Steadicam and gimbal operators who bring both technical skill and creative instinct to your production. Our team works with Italian rental houses like Panalight Rome and Cinerent Milan, so we set up the right stabilization rig for your camera package and your shoot. The platform slots cleanly into your camera department.

Italian Steadicam and gimbal operators across Cinecittà and beyond
Stabilised camera work in Italy is shaped by a steady run of auteur features, prestige drama, and high-end commercial days. That work flows out of Cinecittà and the Milan brand economy all year. Our roster of Steadicam operators spans the SOC Italian chapter — owner-operators with classic Tiffen and PRO sleds built up over decades on Italian feature sets. Alongside them works a younger generation on DJI Ronin 2, Freefly MoVI Pro, and ARRI Trinity hybrid rigs, based out of Rome's Cinecittà sound stages and Lumiq Studios in Turin.
Many have built their reels on the long-take work that defines Bigazzi-shot Sorrentino features such as Youth and The Hand of God, Matteo Garrone's Pinocchio and Io Capitano, and Luca Guadagnino's Italian-language shoots including Call Me By Your Name and Suspiria. Several are Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia camera-op alumni. The Action Group Russian Arm operators in Rome round out the rig, car-mount, and process-trailer end of the bench. Camera packages route through Panalight Roma, Cinegrip, Stop-Service, and Bartolini, with ARRI Alexa 35, Alexa Mini LF, RED V-Raptor, and Sony Venice 2 bodies prepped and balanced before call.
Some productions brief a one-take Via dei Fori Imperiali walk-and-talk, a Cinecittà sound-stage corridor reveal, or a Trastevere alley follow with practicals. Others want a Naples Spaccanapoli market sequence, a Florence Ponte Vecchio crossing, or a Milano Brera fashion run-and-gun. For each one we suggest an operator based on camera weight, lens choice, vest type, and shot length, not a generic day rate quote.
Our coordinators set up rehearsal blocks and blocking sessions for tricky choreography. For action sequences, they plan car-to-ground transfers using Cinegrip and Stop-Service camera cars and process trailers. When the script calls for it, we pair Steadicam with crane, cable cam, Technocrane, or ARRI Trinity hybrid moves, plus car process work across feature, drama, and commercial sets.
Gear is insured to Italian industry standards through dedicated production cover. Our crews know the communications, monitor, and follow-focus chains favoured by AIC DPs, who move easily between drama, feature, music video, and commercial sets across Rome and Milano. Global shoots using the MiC 40% Italian Cinema Plan can fold stabilised camera days into wider crew packages under one CCNL Cinema Audiovisivo contract, with ENPALS inputs and INAIL safety coverage already attached.
On set, our operators slot into the camera team's data and monitor chain. The stabilised body feeds wireless video to the director's and DP's monitors, so each take is judged live. Recorded media hands off to the DIT or data wrangler for backup and proxy work between setups. Our crews run the follow-focus, timecode, and lens-metadata links that editorial and VFX need later. So footage reaches the cart logged, backed up, and ready to ingest.
FAQ
Our Equipment & Expertise
When should I choose Steadicam versus gimbal stabilization?
Steadicam shines on long takes, heavy cinema cameras, and smooth natural movement. Gimbals give more mobility for run-and-gun work, lighter setups, and dynamic low-angle shots. Many shoots use both, picking each tool to suit the shot.
What camera systems can your operators support?
Our operators work with all major cinema cameras on Steadicam rigs, including ARRI Alexa, RED, Sony Venice, and Blackmagic. Gimbal operators handle these too, plus lighter systems like Canon C300, Sony FX6, and mirrorless cameras.
How much rehearsal time is needed for complex Steadicam shots?
Complex choreographed shots usually need 1-2 hours of on-set rehearsal. For big one-take sequences, we suggest a full or half rehearsal day before the shoot.
Do operators bring their own equipment?
Most of our Steadicam operators are owner-operators with their own rigs. Gimbal gear can be operator-owned or rented on its own. We arrange the gear to fit your production's needs and budget.
Can you combine Steadicam with other camera movement?
Yes. We often shoot moves that pair Steadicam or gimbal with dollies, cranes, cars, and cable cam systems. Complex sequences just need extra planning and rehearsal.
What are typical day rates for Steadicam operators?
Day rates vary with operator experience, the gear used, and the production type. A rate covers the operator and their stabilization rig, while camera, lenses, and accessories are usually billed apart. Contact us for a quote.
