Director of Photography Services
Experienced DPs for film, TV, commercials, and documentaries throughout Italy.
A Director of Photography shapes how a production looks. The role drives the creative calls on lighting, camera movement, lens choice, and framing. Italy's rich film heritage runs from Cinecittà Studios in Rome to the Neorealist tradition. It gave us famed cinematographers like Vittorio Storaro AIC ASC and Luca Bigazzi AIC, whose command of Italian light still guides DPs worldwide.
We connect you with skilled Directors of Photography who grasp both the creative and the practical sides of your shoot. Whether you film at Cinecittà or on location in Sicily, our team pairs your project with DPs who bring the right visual sense. We source the gear through rental houses like Panalight Roma and Cinecitta Studios' own facilities.

Italian DPs from Cinecittà's lineage to today's auteur features
Italy's Director of Photography community runs in an unbroken line. It reaches from the Neorealist and post-war operatori through the Vittorio Storaro AIC ASC generation, with three Academy Awards for Apocalypse Now, Reds, and The Last Emperor. The line carries on into the auteur work of Luca Bigazzi AIC, whose films with Paolo Sorrentino on The Great Beauty, Youth, and The Hand of God remain a global touchstone for Italian light and shadow.
Around that lineage sits a wider bench our network draws on each week. Daria D'Antonio AIC, the Hand of God DP, now shoots Naples-based features. Daniele Ciprì works on Marco Bellocchio's recent projects. Mauro Fiore ASC, the Calabrian-born cinematographer, holds an Avatar Oscar alongside studio franchise credits. Italo Petriccione shoots the Gabriele Salvatores cinema. Arnaldo Catinari and Pasquale Mari cover theatrical and television hybrids. Emerging AIC members come through the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia in Rome. Together they round out a roster of more than 150 vetted cinematographers, spanning Cinecittà's historic stages, Milan's commercial and fashion economy, Turin's Lumiq Studios, and far-flung shoots across Sicilia, Puglia, the Dolomites, and the Mediterranean islands.
Engagements start with a brief, reference deck, and budget. They then narrow to a short list of showreels and direct conversations before booking is confirmed. Our DPs are fluent across ARRI Alexa 35, Alexa Mini LF, RED V-Raptor and Komodo, and Sony Venice 2 packages. We draw that gear from Panalight Roma, Cinegrip, and Stop-Service. Most DPs also keep standing ties with the gaffer, key grip, focus puller, and 1st AC teams they prefer to bring along.
Pre-shoot days cover shot lists, lighting plans, lens tests, and tech scouts. These run across Cinecittà sound stages, Lumiq Studios in Turin, Mediaset Cologno Monzese, Rai's Roman production hubs, and exterior locations from Lazio to the Amalfi Coast. We also file the MiC 40% Italian Cinema Plan forms wherever the production qualifies for the national tax credit. Contracts are written against the CCNL Cinema Audiovisivo framework, with ENPALS and INAIL coverage built in. Global shoots can blend an Italian DP with a travelling director, or place an Italian cinematographer onto a foreign-language shoot abroad. We handle either path through one set camera-department contract.
Regional reach lets us place the right DP wherever the shoot lands. A unit may open on a Cinecittà stage in Rome, then move to Sicily, the Dolomites, or the Amalfi Coast in the same schedule. Each region reads its light differently, so we match a cinematographer whose reel fits that look and terrain. Local camera crews in Milan, Turin, and Naples back the DP on each leg. This keeps the visual style steady as the production travels across Italy.
Bilingual coordination keeps a foreign director and the Italian camera team in step. Our DPs and crews work in both Italian and English across tech scouts, lighting plans, and the set floor. We brief a US studio or UK broadcaster in the format they expect, then carry the same shot detail to the local crew. Scheduling stays tight through clear call sheets and shared shot lists. This two-way flow protects the look and the day rate on every cross-border shoot.
FAQ
Our DP Network
What experience levels of DPs do you provide?
We provide DPs at every experience level. Emerging cinematographers suit indie and low-budget projects. Mid-level DPs bring solid commercial and documentary credits. Senior DPs carry feature film and global broadcast experience. We match that experience to your budget and project needs.
How do you match DPs to projects?
We review your creative brief, reference materials, and budget, then shortlist DPs with the right genre experience and visual fit. You receive hand-picked showreels and can ask for direct conversations with candidates before booking.
What camera systems do your DPs work with?
Our DPs are skilled across all major cinema camera systems, including ARRI Alexa, RED, Sony Venice, Blackmagic, and Canon cinema lines. Many focus on certain systems, yet all adapt to your production needs and to what the rental house has on hand.
Do DPs come with their own equipment?
Some owner-operator DPs bring their own camera packages, while others work with rented gear. We arrange gear sourcing around your preference and budget, whether through DP-owned kit, rental houses, or gear the production supplies.
Can you provide international DPs for shoots in Italy?
Yes. We source global DPs for shoots in Italy and handle the work permits and logistics. We also place Italian DPs on global shoots that need local cinematography talent abroad.
What's included in DP day rates?
Standard DP day rates cover on-set cinematography during production hours. Pre-production work, such as tech scouts, shot listing, and meetings, is mostly billed apart. Gear, camera assistants, and late hours cost extra based on project scope.
