Motion Control Services

Robotic precision cinematography for VFX, commercials, and complex productions.

Scroll

Motion control systems use computer-programmed camera rigs to make precise, repeatable camera moves. These rigs are key for visual effects compositing, multi-pass photography, automotive commercials, and tabletop product shots. They suit any shot where the same camera move must run again across many takes or elements. Milan and Rome are Italy's main hubs for commercial work, and demand is strong for motion control that backs Italian fashion, automotive, and luxury brands.

We source motion control rigs and skilled operators from across Italy. Our team works with stage spaces at Cinecittà Studios in Rome, which has 20 stages and is Europe's largest at 400,000m². The site now hosts Europe's largest LED wall too. We set up gear delivery, stage time, and tech support, so your motion control sequences are captured fast and repeat exactly each time.

Robotic precision for Italy's automotive and luxury shoots

Motion control rigs meet one tough need: the same frame-accurate camera move repeated across many passes. That serves VFX compositing, multi-element photography, automotive tabletops, and the high-end product work that defines the Italian fashion, luxury, food, and automotive sectors.

Our inventory holds Mark Roberts Milo systems for large-scale moves on full-size cars and talent. It also has Bolt and the new Bolt X high-speed robotic arms, loved by Ferrari, Lamborghini, Maserati, and Alfa Romeo directors based in Maranello, Sant'Agata Bolognese, and Turin. We add Modula multi-axis sites and smaller tabletop rigs for macro work, liquid pours, and food cinematography commissioned by Lavazza, Illy, Barilla, San Pellegrino, Ferrero, and Campari.

We work out of Cinecittà in Rome, with its twenty-plus volumes and Studio 22's 38,000 square feet of ICVFX-ready space. We also use Lumiq Studios in Turin, which has its own LED volume and deep automotive roots, plus Stop-Service rental in Rome and Milan-side spaces that serve the fashion trade around Via Tortona and the Brera district. So a shoot can pair motion control with LED-wall stages, drive-in tanks, or fully lit insert sets on one site, all without breaking the schedule.

Pre-visualisation sits at the heart of the process. Our crew programmes camera paths in software, times them against animatics, and signs them off before any stage time is spent. This lets DPs and clients refine moves before talent or product arrives at Cinecittà, Lumiq, or the Milan-side spaces. On the day, frame-accurate repeats give each pass a VFX team needs: hero takes, clean plates, lighting passes, multi-pass element photography, and matched moves. Motion data, camera tracking metadata, and lens metadata ship alongside the footage as OpenEXR or ProRes files.

Our team plugs straight into Italy's award-winning VFX houses. These include Frame by Frame in Rome, twice a David di Donatello VFX winner, EDI Effetti Digitali Italiani in Milan and Rome, Square Post Production in Milan, and Cinecittà Post. We line up schedules with the forty-per-cent global Italian Tax Credit timelines under the Cinema Italian Plan that global shoots rely on. Our operators carry credits across Milan fashion runways for Prada, Gucci, and Versace, automotive launches in Maranello and Turin, branded content for Stellantis, and high-end product campaigns from Rome and Milan agencies. Full CCNL Cinema Audiovisivo, ENPALS, and INAIL coverage is in place.

These rigs are heavy and precise, so we plan transport and load-in with care. We book a setup day to position the track, level the base, and calibrate each axis before the shoot starts. Stage time at Cinecittà or Lumiq is reserved early and held against the previs sign-off. For automotive work in Maranello and Turin, we move the system to the client floor and re-calibrate on site. This way each booked stage day opens with the rig already shoot-ready.

FAQ

Robotic Camera Expertise

What is motion control filming?

Motion control uses computer-programmed robotic camera systems that make precise, repeatable camera moves. The same move can then run again for many passes, which is key for VFX compositing. It also allows moves too fast or too precise for a human to do by hand.

When should I use motion control in Italy?

Motion control suits VFX-heavy shoots that use Italy's 40% global tax credit. It also fits automotive and luxury commercials shooting in Milan, fashion campaigns, and product work for Italian brands. Any sequence that needs frame-accurate repeatability is a good fit.

What systems do you provide in Italy?

We work with all the major motion control systems, and they are ready across Italy. This includes MILO for large-scale moves, Bolt high-speed robotic arms favored by Milan automotive directors, Modula rigs, and smaller tabletop systems for fashion and product cinematography.

Can motion control work with high-speed cameras?

Yes. Systems like Bolt are built for high-speed work, and they pair fast programmed moves with high-frame-rate cameras. This creates the dramatic speed-ramped shots common in Italian automotive, fashion, and luxury commercials.

How do you handle multi-pass shooting?

We program moves that run the same way for each pass, such as the talent pass, the clean plate, and the lighting elements. The precision of motion control makes sure every element lines up perfectly in compositing, backed by Italy's award-winning VFX houses.

What about smaller tabletop work?

We supply smaller motion control rigs for tabletop, product, and food photography. These systems give the same repeatability and precision at a scale suited to Italian fashion, jewellery, food, and luxury brands.

Productions in Italy that need this often pair it with Virtual Production, Stop Motion Production, and Green Screen Filming for full coverage. Most projects also draw on Time-lapse & Hyperlapse.
