SCENE 01 / MOTION CONTROL

Motion Control Services

Robotic precision cinematography for VFX, commercials, and complex productions.

Scroll

Motion control systems use computer-programmed camera rigs to execute precise, repeatable camera movements. These systems are essential for visual effects compositing, multi-pass photography, automotive commercials, tabletop product shots, and any sequence where identical camera moves must be reproduced across multiple takes or elements. Milan and Rome are Italy's primary commercial production hubs, with strong demand for motion control supporting Italian fashion, automotive, and luxury brands.

We source motion control rigs and experienced operators from across Italy, working with stage facilities at Cinecittà Studios in Rome (20 stages, Europe's largest at 400,000m²) which now hosts Europe's largest LED wall. Our team coordinates equipment delivery, stage time, and technical support so your motion control sequences are captured efficiently and with exacting repeatability.

Robotic precision for Italy's automotive and luxury shoots

Here is how this works in practice. Motion control rigs answer a specific and demanding need: identical, frame-accurate camera moves repeated across multiple passes for VFX compositing, multi-element photography, automotive tabletops and the high-end product cinematography that defines the Italian fashion, luxury, food and automotive sectors.

Here is the short of it. Our set up inventory has Mark Roberts Milo systems for large-scale moves on full-size cars and talent, Bolt and the new Bolt X high-speed robotic arms favoured by Ferrari, Lamborghini, Maserati and Alfa Romeo directors working out of Maranello, Sant'Agata Bolognese and Turin, Modula multi-axis sites and smaller tabletop rigs for macro work, liquid pours and food cinematography commissioned by Lavazza, Illy, Barilla, San Pellegrino, Ferrero and Campari.

Here is the breakdown. We work out of Cinecittà in Rome with its twenty-plus volumes and Studio 22's 38,000 square feet of ICVFX-ready space, Lumiq Studios in Turin with its dedicated LED volume and automotive heritage, Stop-Service rental in Rome and Milan-side facilities serving the fashion industry around Via Tortona and the Brera district — so productions can pair motion control with LED-wall stages, drive-in tanks or fully lit insert sets within a single site tricky without breaking the schedule.

Here is what that looks like on the ground. Pre-visualisation sits at the heart of the process. Our crew programmes camera paths in software, times them against animatics and signs them off before stage time is consumed. This lets DPs and clients refine moves before talent or product arrives at Cinecittà, Lumiq or the Milan-side facilities. On the day, frame-accurate repeats deliver every pass a VFX team needs: hero takes, clean plates, lighting passes, multi-pass element photography and matched moves, with motion data, camera tracking metadata and lens metadata exported alongside the footage to OpenEXR or ProRes deliverables.

Here is how the picture comes together. Our team integrates directly with Italy's award-winning VFX houses — Frame by Frame in Rome, twice a David di Donatello VFX winner, EDI Effetti Digitali Italiani in Milan and Rome, Square Post Production in Milan and Cinecittà Post — and aligns schedules with the forty-per-cent global Italian Tax Credit timelines under the Cinema Italian Plan that global productions rely on. Operators carry credits across Milan fashion runways for Prada, Gucci and Versace, automotive launches in Maranello and Turin, branded content for Stellantis and high-end product campaigns commissioned out of Rome and Milan agencies, with full CCNL Cinema Audiovisivo, ENPALS and INAIL coverage in place.

FAQ

Robotic Camera Expertise

What is motion control filming?

Motion control uses computer-programmed robotic camera systems that can execute precise, repeatable camera movements. This allows identical moves to be repeated for multiple passes, essential for VFX compositing, and enables moves too fast or precise for human operation.

When should I use motion control in Italy?

Motion control is ideal for VFX-heavy productions taking advantage of Italy's 40% international tax credit, automotive and luxury commercials shooting in Milan, fashion campaigns, product work for Italian brands, and any sequence requiring frame-accurate repeatability.

What systems do you provide in Italy?

We work with major motion control systems available across Italy, including MILO for large-scale moves, Bolt high-speed robotic arms favored by Milan automotive directors, Modula rigs, and smaller tabletop systems for fashion and product cinematography.

Can motion control work with high-speed cameras?

Yes, motion control systems like Bolt are specifically designed for high-speed work, coordinating fast programmed moves with high-frame-rate cameras. This creates dramatic speed-ramped shots common in Italian automotive, fashion, and luxury commercials.

How do you handle multi-pass shooting?

We program moves that can be repeated identically for each pass—talent pass, clean plate, lighting elements, etc. The precision of motion control ensures all elements align perfectly in compositing, supported by Italy's award-winning VFX houses.

What about smaller tabletop work?

We provide smaller motion control rigs for tabletop, product, and food photography. These systems offer the same repeatability and precision at a scale suited to Italian fashion, jewellery, food, and luxury brands.

Productions in Italy that need this often pair it with Virtual Production, Stop Motion Production, and Green Screen Filming for full coverage. Most projects also draw on Time-lapse & Hyperlapse.
