SCENE 01 / HIGH SPEED FILMING

High Speed Filming

Capture stunning slow motion with Phantom cameras and precision motion control in Italy.

Scroll

High-speed filming captures action at extreme frame rates. The result is dramatic slow-motion footage that shows details the naked eye misses. This technique drives Italy's top commercial work. It powers Milan fashion and luxury product spots, including Ferrari, Lamborghini, and Maserati automotive ads. It also covers Rome beverage shoots, Serie A football analysis, and creative sequences for Italian luxury brands.

We source high-speed cameras from Rome and Milan rental houses, with special lighting and data workflows. Our team sets up skilled operators at Cinecittà Studios, which spans 20+ stages and 400,000m² as Europe's largest. The work draws on Italy's up to 40% global tax credit and Europe's largest LED wall at Cinecittà. It also taps pro post partners such as Frame by Frame, EDI, and Square Post Production.

Phantom slow motion across Rome, Milan and Monza

High-speed filming captures action at extreme frame rates. The dramatic slow motion it produces has become a signature of Italian commercial work over the last decade.

The Phantom Flex 4K and the wider Vision Research VEO and T-series are the workhorse bodies on Ferrari and Lamborghini automotive spots. These shoot at Maranello and around the Autodromo Nazionale di Monza. The same bodies run on Pirelli tyre campaigns across the Monza, Mugello and Imola circuits. They also serve Lavazza and Illy coffee pours captured at the Turin and Trieste headquarters. And they handle the precise liquid and splash work that fills Milan luxury and Rome beverage cutdowns for fashion and FMCG clients.

Our crew sources these cameras through pro rental houses in Rome and Milan, such as Panalight, Movie People, Cinevideo, Cartoceto Cine and Cinetlux. We pair them with RED Komodo and V-Raptor high-speed bodies when a shoot needs a compact form for car interiors, drive-in tanks or rigged set pieces. Operators arrive on stage at Cinecittà with on-set DIT, real-time playback monitors and the flicker-free HMI and LED packages that high frame rates demand. Directors can then review takes at full resolution between setups without leaving the floor.

Cinecittà's twenty-plus stages in Rome form Europe's largest sound stage complex at 400,000 square metres. A 25-stage expansion is underway by 2026. They sit alongside Lumiq Studios in Turin, Stop-Service rental space, and the Mediaset and Rai facilities across Milan, Rome and Cologno Monzese. Together these venues give the controlled lighting these cameras need.

Our high-speed teams plug cleanly into the Frame by Frame, EDI Effetti Digitali Italiani, Square Post Production and Cinecittà Post pipelines that handle the resulting datasets. Our colour scientists then work the on-set look against the eventual DI grade. Bolt and Mark Roberts Milo motion-control rigs sit alongside the Phantom packages for repeatable robotic moves. These cover fashion bottle pours, automotive product details, espresso crema flows and slow-motion sequences for Italian luxury brands. Tracking sync locks the camera and product to the frame across many identical passes.

Our team files MiC and Cinema Italian Plan forms to confirm forty-per-cent global tax credit eligibility. The same forms cover CCNL Cinema Audiovisivo compliance with ENPALS and INAIL coverage. Meanwhile DIT crews manage the multi-terabyte daily transfers between Rome, Milan and the post houses receiving dailies. Those transfers come from 1000-frames-per-second 4K capture.

FAQ

High Speed Expertise

What frame rates can you achieve?

Our Phantom cameras capture up to 1,000+ fps at 4K resolution, and higher frame rates are ready at lower resolutions. We'll suggest the best frame rate and resolution balance for your Italian commercial, fashion, or feature shoot.

What's the difference between Phantom camera models?

The Phantom Flex 4K gives the highest resolution at extreme speeds, while the VEO series gives strong performance at a more reachable price. We'll suggest the right camera based on your resolution, speed, and budget needs.

Do you provide Bolt or motion control rigs?

Yes. We work with Bolt and similar high-speed robotic camera systems through Rome and Milan rental partners. These are the key tools for Italian luxury automotive commercials such as Ferrari and Lamborghini, plus fashion shoots and beverage campaigns. All of this work is eligible for the 40% tax credit.

What about lighting for high-speed filming?

High-speed cameras need far more light than standard filming. We design and supply flicker-free HMI and LED packages sized for your frame rate, whether at Cinecittà Studios or on location across Rome, Milan, and beyond.

How much data does high-speed filming generate?

High-speed filming creates very large files, and a single take can run to many gigabytes. Our DIT services manage this data workflow with proper backup, sorting, and delivery in your chosen formats.

What applications are best for high-speed filming?

High-speed filming shines for liquid and splash shots, luxury product and automotive commercials, Serie A football sequences, fashion campaigns, scientific records, and any subject where showing hidden motion adds visual impact.

Productions in Italy that need this often pair it with Helicopter Filming, Aerial Drone Services, and Vehicle Mounting for full coverage. Most projects also draw on Director of Photography Services and Camera & Cinematography.
