Second Assistant Directors

The 2nd assistant directors we work with in Italy come up through the aiuto regista custom that Cinecittà has shaped for generations. Most spent formative seasons on Rai Fiction series, Sky Italia originals, Mediaset shoots and Cinecittà features. They then crossed into the global shoots arriving under the 40 percent Italian Cinema Plan tax credit, which the Ministero della Cultura administers.

They build call sheets in Italian and English and manage cast and background flow from holding through wardrobe and trucco. They set up transport between basecamp and set across ZTL Centro Storico zones, and they keep the production forms flowing accurately so the 1st AD stays anchored on the shooting floor.

They know the CCNL Cinema Audiovisivo rules on crew hours, late hours brackets and rest periods, the ENPALS performer sign-ups, INAIL workplace insurance reporting, and the Direzione Territoriale del Lavoro rules covering minors on set. This means the schedules they distribute stay realistic and compliant from the first day of principal photography in Italy. They liaise daily with the production office to confirm hotel pickups, makeup chair times, costume fittings and the Italian-Italian and Italian-English planning that sets a smooth shoot apart from a chaotic one.

On the ground, our 2nd ADs in Italy handle daily production reports, time cards, scene status sheets, and cast and crew logs. They also keep the paper trail needed for the MiC tax credit records that the line producer submits at wrap.

They hold credits across Cinecittà's twenty-plus stages, including the LED volume, Cinecittà World on Via Pontina, Studi De Paolis on Via Tiburtina, the regional facilities run by Apulia Film Commission in Bari, and the Lombardy stages near Milano. They routinely set up large background calls through Italian extras agencies such as DAP Agenzia, Quanta and Magicstars. This covers street scenes in Trastevere, Testaccio, Navigli and Florence's Oltrarno, period work in Matera, Cinque Terre and Siena, and crowd sequences at the Foro Romano, Pompei and Venice's Piazza San Marco.

When shoots involve child performers, our 2nd ADs handle the Direzione Territoriale del Lavoro authorisations and on-set tutor planning that Italian minor-on-set rules require. They also manage the extra Soprintendenza walkthroughs and Carabinieri liaison that heritage shoots in Rome, Florence and Venice routinely demand across principal photography. We match 2nd ADs based on language profile, format, AD operation scale and prior Italian credits.
