Safety Officers
Certified safety pros who protect your crew and keep every Italian shoot compliant.
Film production safety in Italy is ruled by Italian occupational safety law (D.Lgs. 81/2008), and ASL workplace safety authorities enforce it. Productions face site-specific hazards, from seismic zones and extreme summer heat to heritage site rules. A qualified safety officer keeps you compliant with local law while managing the risks of stunts, pyrotechnics, water work, and the on-site challenges unique to filming in Italy.
Through NeedAFixer, we connect you with safety officers who hold recognised Italian safety certifications and know what film production demands. Our network includes pros skilled with action sequences at Cinecittà Studios and the safety challenges of the varied filming environments that Italy offers global shoots.

On Location
RSPP-certified set safety across Italian productions
Film production safety in Italy is set by D.Lgs 81/2008, the Testo Unico Salute e Sicurezza sul Lavoro. It is enforced through ASL (Azienda Sanitaria Locale) workplace inspections and INAIL workplace insurance reporting. The Soprintendenza heritage protections also bear directly on stunt and effects work at covered sites such as the Foro Romano, Pompei, and the lagoon of Venice.
The safety officers on our roster hold formal RSPP certification (Responsabile del Servizio di Prevenzione e Protezione), with the moduli the audiovisual sector needs. Most carry extra film stunt and pyrotechnic credentials too, alongside BLS-D first-aid and pronto soccorso training validated by Italian regional health authorities.
They write Documenti di Valutazione dei Rischi (DVR) for each sequence before shooting and draft Piani Operativi di Sicurezza for stunt and SFX work. They file the dichiarazioni di idoneità sanitaria for crew working at height or in confined space. Our officers also meet ASL inspectors during pre-production walkthroughs at Cinecittà, Cinecittà World, the Studi De Paolis on Via Tiburtina, the Pratica di Mare site, the Apulia Film Commission stages in Bari, and the regional facilities run under Ministero della Cultura oversight for tax-credit projects.
On set, our Italian safety officers run pre-shoot location surveys and brief cast and crew in Italian and English at the start of each shooting day. They monitor stunt and pyrotechnic work alongside the stunt coordinator under the Vigili del Fuoco protocols needed for fire effects. Water sequences in the Tyrrhenian and Adriatic, and on rivers such as the Tevere and the Arno, get the same close watch. Our officers also manage the heat-stress and hydration protocols that summer shoots in Sicilia, Puglia, and Lazio routinely need.
They handle INAIL incident reporting when needed and arrange the local 118 emergency service and Croce Rossa Italiana for ambulance standby. They liaise with the Carabinieri and Polizia Locale for road closures and crowd safety. Their safety records come in both Italian and English, which satisfies Italian regulators and the global shoot insurers underwriting the project under London or US policies. We match safety officers to shoots by the hazards in the script, from stunts, water, fire, and cars to working at height and heritage-site limits. Deputies stay on standby too, so multi-unit Italian shoots hold unbroken safety coverage through principal photography.

FAQ
Safety Expertise
When do productions need a safety officer?
Italian rules call for safety oversight on shoots with hazardous activities, stunts, special effects, large crews, or tough locations. Insurance policies also often require a qualified safety officer on set for global shoots.
What qualifications do your safety officers have?
Our safety officers hold recognised Italian health and safety certifications, with set training in film production safety. Many also carry extra credentials in first aid, working at heights, and specialty rescue.
What does a risk assessment involve?
We survey locations, read the production plans and scripts, spot likely hazards, weigh the risk levels, and build mitigation plans. Each risk assessment is logged to Italian standards and shared with the relevant departments.
How do you handle stunt safety?
We work closely with stunt coordinators to review action sequences and put proper safety measures in place. Our officers watch rehearsals and filming, then check every piece of safety gear and each protocol.
What about regulatory compliance?
We keep your shoot compliant with Italian occupational safety law (D.Lgs. 81/2008) for film production. That covers risk records, safety briefings, incident reports to ASL workplace safety authorities, and planning with the relevant local authorities.
Do you provide safety training?
We run safety briefings for cast and crew that cover general set safety and the hazards of each location or sequence. When an activity calls for it, we can also arrange specialty safety training.
