Rough Cut to Final Cut

Italian edit refinement follows a set order — assembly, director's cut, producer's cut, fine cut, picture lock. It draws on the working practice of editors trained at the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia and recognised through AMC (Associazione Montaggio Cinetelevisivo).

Three kinds of work share the same tight refinement loop, each with its own rhythm. The first is feature work for the Sorrentino, Guadagnino, Garrone, and Rohrwacher ecosystems. The second is long-form drama made for Rai Fiction, Sky Italia, Netflix Italy, Amazon Prime Video Italy, and Disney+ Italy by Cattleya, Wildside, Lux Vide, Indigo, Pepito, and Palomar. The third is high-end commercial work cut across Milan, Rome, and Turin. Editors in this lineage include Cristiano Travaglioli, Walter Fasano, and Marco Spoletini, and the wider community is honoured each year at the David di Donatello and Nastri d'Argento.

We then hold the rhythm of review sessions so directors and producers get clear, set points at which to shape pacing, performance, and dramatic arc on screen.

Standard packages run two to three revision rounds from rough cut through picture lock. We add extra rounds where the project's submission calendar demands them, whether for the David di Donatello, Nastri d'Argento, the Venice Film Festival, RomaFF, or the Torino Film Festival. Short-form commercials and branded content mostly lock in two to four weeks. Features and long-form documentaries run four to eight weeks, and Rai Fiction and Sky Italia series are mapped against broadcast slot calendars.

Review sessions use Frame.io or Evercast when people need to join from afar. Our editors take detailed notes in session and return revised cuts with clearly tracked changes for producer sign-off. Performance refinement, alternate-take selection, and subplot rebalancing all happen inside the editor's preferred NLE. That is mostly Avid Media Composer for the Rai, Mediaset, and Sky pipeline, or Adobe Premiere Pro for documentary and commercial work. Picture-locked deliveries arrive with ordered AAF, EDL, and XML hand-offs to Cinecittà DI or the chosen sound house. SIAE clearance is built in, CCNL Cinema Audiovisivo compliance is logged, and the conform metadata stays intact.

We guard unreleased cuts the way streamers and studios expect. Footage moves over encrypted transfer links into access-controlled suites, never open file shares. Review links carry forensic watermarks tied to each viewer, so any leak traces back. Suite drives stay isolated, and we log who opened each cut and when. At wrap, we return or wipe project media to your retention rules. Confidential drama and pre-release features get the same handling as a guarded screener.
