SCENE 01 / SOUND DESIGN

Sound Design

Creative sound design that brings stories to life through immersive audio landscapes and compelling sonic experiences.

Scroll

Sound design builds the full sonic world of a production. It works by choosing, creating, and layering audio. Sound designers craft mood textures, impact effects, transitions, and site-level soundscapes. These pull audiences into the story and deepen the feeling of each scene.

We connect you with sound designers who bring creative vision and tech skill to your project's audio. Our team runs the sound design from the first spotting sessions through final delivery. The result is a sonic identity that stays bold, rich, and moving.

      On Location

Original sound design across Italy's post-production cluster

Sound design for shoots shot in Italy draws on a community of designers based around the Rome and Milan post-prod cluster. The hubs include Cinecittà Sound on the historic lot and Forum Music Village. The latter was Morricone's home studio for forty years and is now a Dolby Atmos-certified design and mix room. The Rome roster also takes in Global Recording Studios and Bartolini Audio on Via Tuscolana, FrameByFrame, and Edi Effetti Digitali Italiani. Officine Meccaniche Milan and Lumiq Audio Turin then carry the northern post chain.

Our team runs spotting sessions early and scopes the project's sonic palette against the visual context. The dense urban layering of a Roman crime drama set in Centro Storico differs sharply from a Sicilian coastal feature. Each genre and setting calls for its own textures, whether wind, water, and stone, the wood-and-snow acoustic of the Dolomiti, or the silence and stone of a Tuscan period drama at Val d'Orcia. Designers build atmospheres, impact effects, transitions, and creature work to picture. They record source material on location where the budget allows. That source can be Roman piazza ambience, Neapolitan vicolo activity, Sicilian fishing-port texture, Dolomiti alpine wind, or the precise acoustics of Renaissance stone interiors. They then layer it with synthesis and library material in Pro Tools HDX sessions.

The work covers each genre Italian production exports. That spans period drama for Rai and global co-productions and modern crime thrillers for Sky Italia. It also covers supernatural horror in the Goblin and Dario Argento lineage. Then there is festival arthouse bound for Venice, Cannes, or the David di Donatello cycle. The list runs on through Rai serial drama, Mediaset and Netflix streaming originals, and Prime Video co-productions. Our designers move with ease between cinematic norms and the looser, bolder palette that streaming originals invite.

We share works-in-progress at agreed milestones, so directors and editors weigh in early on key sonic choices before we commit time to finishing each element. Our team absorbs picture changes through to final mix when the schedule demands it, all without disrupting the design palette. Mix-ready sessions reach the dub stage sorted into clearly named stems: atmospheres, hard effects, designed elements, transitions, creature, mechanical, and car. Each one carries full session records and a clear source-file trail, so the supervising sound editor and re-recording mixer can fold it in with no extra work.

Global clients join reviews remotely through Source-Connect or similar IP workflows. Each session brings full-resolution picture, talkback, and clip-by-clip approval to the design suite, so the project's sonic identity is locked in before the dub stage opens its session for the final mix.

We build every design session to the deliverable spec the project ships against. Source assets are recorded and kept at 24-bit, 96 kHz so they hold detail through the final mix. Stems carry consistent naming and embedded timecode that conform cleanly on the dub stage. We match sample rate, frame rate, and channel layout to the broadcast or streaming target. So the supervising editor inherits a tidy, spec-correct session with no relink or resample work.

      FAQ

      Frequently Asked Questions

What is sound design and why is it important?

Sound design is the craft of building audio that does not exist in production recordings. This ranges from ambient atmospheres and site-level sounds to wild effects and creature voices. Great sound design makes worlds feel real, lifts emotion, and creates moments that audiences feel as much as hear.

Do you create original sounds or use libraries?

We use both. Our sound designers create original recordings and synthesized sounds for the unique elements that define your production, and they also draw on top sound libraries to save time. Each project gets a tailored sonic palette that serves its own creative needs.

Can you design sounds for specific genres like sci-fi or horror?

Yes, fully. Our team has deep experience across every genre, from science fiction and horror to fantasy, action, drama, and documentary. We know the sonic rules and audience expectations of each genre, and we bring a fresh creative angle to every project.

How do you work with directors and editors?

We work closely with you throughout. Our team usually starts with spotting sessions to learn your vision, then shares works-in-progress for feedback and refines the sounds to your direction. We can build to picture lock or take on editing changes as your project grows.

Productions in Italy that need this often pair it with Foley Recording Services, Dialogue Editing & ADR Services, and 5.1 Surround Mixing Services for full coverage. Most projects also draw on Interview & Dialogue Editing and Color Grading Services.
