Music Composition & Scoring

Original music for shoots finishing in Italy draws on the deepest film-score tradition in cinema. That lineage runs through Ennio Morricone, Nino Rota, Luis Bacalov, Pino Donaggio, Riz Ortolani, and Goblin, the signature collaborators of Dario Argento. It carries into a new generation led by Nicola Piovani, Dario Marianelli, and Andrea Farri, plus the composers scoring today's Sorrentino, Garrone, and Bellocchio features.

Recording happens mostly at Forum Music Village near the Pantheon. This was Morricone's home studio for forty years, and it is now Dolby Atmos-certified for object-based theatrical mixes. We also track at Officine Meccaniche Milan and Lumiq Audio Turin, with orchestral sessions at the Auditorium Parco della Musica using the Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della Rai or at the Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Rome.

Our coordinators match directors to composers whose voice fits the project's tone and budget. We then manage the creative work from the first spotting session through theme development and the demo cycle. We also book session players from the Italian conservatorio pool. That pool spans string sections out of Santa Cecilia, period-instrument pros for historical work from Cremona's luthier tradition, choir voices from the Sistine Chapel and Vatican choirs, and jazz combo and modern electronic players for genre and streaming work.

Score production runs from the first demo through to fully mixed music stems. We deliver those stems on the picture-lock schedule the production cuts to.

The process usually opens with a spotting session against picture. There we find where music will sit and what it must carry emotionally. It then moves through theme development and director approval cycles before cue composition and recording. Recording can mean a live orchestra at Forum Music Village or the Auditorium Parco della Musica with Santa Cecilia or Rai players. It can also mean hybrid sessions that blend live soloists with virtual-instrument mockups inside Pro Tools, or fully sample-based mockups, depending on budget and creative direction.

We track live recording sessions to Dolby Atmos-ready stems where the theatrical or top home release supports it. Calibrated downmixes then cover streaming and broadcast delivery targets. Rights admin runs through SIAE for the Italian area, plus the global PRO of the composer's home sign-ups, and we deliver cue sheets and full publishing and mechanical records alongside the masters. Standard agreements give the producer full ownership of the original compositions, including publishing and mechanical rights. We frame this up front in the composer contract, so there is no rights doubt at the TV networks, distributor, or sites delivery stage.
