Underwater Filming Services
Certified dive shooting for marine, pool, and aquatic shoots across \t\t\t\t\tItaly, from the Amalfi Coast to Sardinia's emerald waters.
An underwater camera operator captures footage below the surface. The work blends diving skill with pro cinematography. From Sardinia's Costa Smeralda to the volcanic seabed of the Aeolian Islands, they handle waterproof housings and underwater lighting. They also manage the special demands of aquatic shoots, such as visibility, currents, and communication. Dive shooting needs special training that goes well beyond standard camera work.
We connect you with certified underwater camera operators. They hold pro diving papers and real film production work behind them. Our network has pros ready for Italy's Mediterranean coastline, Sardinia, and Sicily's marine reserves. We also cover the pro tank setup at Cinecittà Studios in Rome. Each one is geared to deliver cinematic underwater footage safely and well.

On Location
Certified underwater cinematography across Italian seas and tanks
Underwater camera work in Italy centers on a few distinct Mediterranean settings. We pick our operators for proven experience in each. The Pelagos Sanctuary between Liguria, Tuscany and Corsica offers cetacean and pelagic work, from fin whales and striped dolphins to Cuvier's beaked whales. That work draws documentary commissions from Rai Documentari and global natural-history TV networks.
Cleaner visibility and dramatic walls draw feature drama and commercial work to several spots. These include the Marine Protected Areas of the Tremiti Islands in the Adriatic, the Egadi off Trapani, the Maddalena archipelago in northern Sardinia, and the waters around Capri with the Grotta Azzurra. Costa Smeralda yacht shoots for the Italian luxury and fashion houses run out of Porto Cervo. Surface support there is tied to the local marina operators. The lineage of Italian underwater DPs — Mario Trupiano, Roberto Rinaldi, Pasquale Vassallo — sits behind the talent we field.
Each operator on our register holds pro dive certifications matched to the depth and conditions of the brief. The surface teams behind them work within the Italian Coast Guard, the local Marine Protected Area authorities, and the ASL safety frameworks. Any work in covered waters calls for these frameworks.
Housings are matched to the camera package agreed with the DP. ARRI Alexa Mini, RED Komodo and V-Raptor, Sony Venice and FX6, and Blackmagic systems all run often through our packages. We pair them with Gates, SeaSeed and Aquatica housings, calibrated dome ports, underwater monitors, and dedicated LED and HMI lighting plans. Before any actor enters the water, we log dive plans, risk assessments, safety-diver staffing, surface support, and emergency protocols. These follow Italian diving rules and global film industry safety standards. Coordinators size the team to the brief. That brief might be a single-day shoot at Capri's Grotta Azzurra, or a multi-day Pelagos cetacean documentary that needs drift dives and rebreather safety.

FAQ
Professional Underwater Operations
What certifications do your underwater operators hold?
Our underwater camera operators hold pro PADI, CMAS, or equal certifications suited to the filming depth and conditions. Many also hold pro dive shooting certifications. For complex shoots, they carry HSE or equal commercial diving qualifications.
What camera systems can you use underwater?
We run underwater housings for ARRI Alexa Mini, RED Komodo/V-Raptor, Sony Venice/FX6, and Blackmagic cameras. The housing choice depends on your camera package, the features you need, and the depth. We also use special underwater cinema cameras when a shoot calls for them.
Can you film with actors underwater?
Yes. We work with trained water safety coordinators and give actor coaching for underwater work. Non-diving actors can be filmed in controlled shallow water with safety divers on hand. Complex underwater stunts need special planning and a clear safety plan.
What locations in Italy are suitable for underwater filming?
Italy offers varied underwater filming spots: the Mediterranean (clear water, marine life), the Atlantic coast (dramatic conditions), lakes and rivers (freshwater), and many studio tanks and pools for controlled shoots.
How do you handle underwater lighting?
We use special underwater LED and HMI lights in waterproof housings. For pool and tank work, above-water lighting can reach the subject well. Deep or murky water needs its own underwater lighting package, which we plan during pre-production.
What are the safety requirements for underwater filming?
All underwater work needs risk assessments, dive plans, certified safety divers, surface support, and emergency protocols. We follow Italian diving rules and film industry safety standards. Complex scenes may need a hyperbaric chamber on standby.
