Here is how this works in practice. Italy's post-prod sector is more concentrated than it looks — Rome and Milan hold most of the working pipelines, anchored by Cinecittà Post's DI suites on the studio lot, Lumiq's high-end finishing in Turin, Frame by Frame's two David di Donatello VFX wins, EDI Effetti Digitali Italiani's Disney, Marvel and DC credits, FrameByFrame's editing suites, EM srl's online and grading, and Square Post Production's Milan operation with a London branch. Our post-prod supervisors come out of those rooms and know the engineers, colourists and VFX leads by name.

Here is the short of it. They run multi-vendor pipelines that span edit, colour, VFX, sound edit, ADR and final mix, manage HDR 4K finishing for streaming and broadcast, watch Dolby Atmos mix theatres in Rome and Milan, and set up DCP mastering for theatrical release across European cinema standards including Eurimages-supported distribution. Schedules are written against picture-lock dates that have to land cleanly inside the Italian Cinema Plan PCN — the production tax credit certification — so that qualifying post-prod spend documents through to MiC and the 40% credit is preserved from start to finish across the certification file.

Here is the breakdown. Day to day the supervisor sits at the centre of the data flow. Our post supervisors set up dailies and review sessions between Cinecittà-based edit and the independent post houses across Roma, Milano and Torino, manage shot tracking, version control and quality control across VFX vendors and freelance compositors, watch sound edit and ADR sessions at Fonoroma and the Italian mix stages including Cinecittà's own dubbing suites, and hold the schedule against the final mix, online conform, HDR colour grade and SDR trim pass.

Here is what that looks like on the ground. EBU R128-compliant masters go out to RAI. The European broadcast pipeline; DCPs go to the Italian theatrical chain and to global distributors via Eurimages-supported routes; streaming-specific deliverables go to Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+, Apple TV+ and the sites with their own QC specs and IMF packaging.

Here is how the picture comes together. Where the production carries a co-production treaty plan — the renewed UK-Italy MoU from 2025, the France-Italy 1949 treaty, Canada, Germany, Spain, Australia, China and Japan agreements — the supervisor structures the post spend allocation to satisfy both the tax-credit certification and the co-production points test that MiC reviews on final delivery. Budgets run in EUR with full IVA invoicing, and the certification file closes alongside delivery.
