SCENE 01 / LOCATION SCOUTING SERVICES
Location Scouting Services
Find perfect filming locations across Italy, from Rome to Milan and beyond.
The right location can make or break a production. So we built a team of skilled scouts who know Italy inside and out, from the ancient ruins of Rome to the fashion district of Milan and the dramatic Amalfi coastline. We handle it all: site research, logistics checks and permit paperwork. Tell us what you want, and we will find it.
Over the years, we built a database of more than 5,000 locations across the country. But we don't just hand you a list and wish you luck. Our scouts visit each site to check it fits your exact needs, whether that's a Renaissance villa in Tuscany for a period piece or a sleek Milan rooftop above the Duomo for a luxury fashion campaign.
What really sets us apart is our network. We have spent years building ties with property owners, local comuni, the Italian Film Commission, Cinecittà Studios, and regional film commissions such as the Roma Lazio Film Commission, Apulia Film Commission, and Trentino Film Commission. When you need to shoot at a location that usually says no, we know who to call.

How We Work With You
This is how we usually work with productions. You tell us what you want, we go find it, and we handle the headaches in between: permits, fee talks and logistics. By the time you show up to shoot, it is all ready.
Requirements Analysis
First, we sit down with you to learn exactly what you want. Our team goes through your script, reviews reference images, talks through budget limits, and pins down the visual style you are after. No detail is too small at this stage.
Research & Reconnaissance
Once we know what you need, our scouts get to work. The team pulls site options from the database and then visits each one in person. Our crews shoot photos from every angle while we log the details that matter: power, parking, ground conditions and how the daylight falls.
Presentation & Selection
We build a detailed presentation for each shortlisted location. You get pro photos, a clear logistics rundown, rough costs, and notes on the permits we will need. Most clients find exactly what they want in the first round of options.
Coordination & Securing
Once you have made your choice, we handle the rest. Our team agrees fees with property owners, sets up access schedules, manages contracts, and secures every permit you need. By the time your crew arrives, it is all sorted and ready to go.
You will have one point of contact throughout, someone who knows your project and gives you straight answers when things change. And things always change.
What We Bring to the Table
Years of on-the-ground work across Italy, a database we built from scratch, and the kind of local ties that take years to form.
Our Resources
5,000+ Locations On File
We have built this database for years. Every entry has photos, GPS coordinates, notes on access and power, and a note on the best time of year. It is not just a list; it is hard-won local knowledge.
On-Site Technical Surveys
Before we recommend a place, we check it ourselves. Power supply, truck access, parking and ambient noise are the things that matter once you are trying to shoot there.
Permit Handling
Italian red tape can be a lot to handle. We deal with the permit forms, the property releases and the back-and-forth with local officials, so you don't have to.

Why Choose Fixers in Italy for Location Scouting
Local Expertise
Our scouts have spent their lives in these places. They know the back roads that lead to hidden gardens and tucked-away towns most visitors never find. That local knowledge lets us offer locations you won't see in any other production's portfolio.
Complete Documentation
Each location report we deliver is full enough to hand straight to your line producer. The document covers tech specs, permit needs, access routes and nearby facilities. It is all there, sorted and ready to use.
Rapid Response
Sometimes plans change at the last minute. We get it. So we offer a 48-hour turnaround on location reports, plus rush scouting when you need to pivot fast during production.
Cultural Heritage Access
Getting the green light to film at UNESCO sites, historic villas and palazzi or national monuments isn't easy, but we have done it dozens of times. We know the application steps, the right contacts, and how to pitch your project so it gets approved.
On Location
Vetted Italian locations from Roman ruins to Dolomite peaks
Scouting in Italy rewards local instinct as much as a deep database. Our team works a catalogue of more than five thousand pre-scouted sites. But each pick starts with a fresh visit, so we can confirm light direction, ambient noise, car access and the real state of comune-level permits before a shortlist reaches your line producer.
We move fast through Rome's many faces: the imperial monuments of the Centro Storico, the lived-in tangle of Trastevere, the rationalist lines of EUR. We reach out to Milan's Brera and Navigli, Naples' Spaccanapoli, Florence's Renaissance core, Venice's canals and the studio campuses around Cinecittà. Each district carries its own paperwork through the local police municipale and, where heritage is involved, the Soprintendenza.
Italy's heritage and natural locations bring their own rules. Pompei and Herculaneum, the Amalfi Coast, the Cinque Terre, Lake Como, the Dolomites and the Sicilian baroque towns of Noto and Ragusa each need liaison with regional Soprintendenze, city film offices and, in many cases, the relevant film commission, so the MiC tax credit or regional cash rebates apply cleanly. Our scouts deliver shoot-ready packages within forty-eight hours. Each one comes with daylight studies, power and parking notes, ZTL access routes and backup options for hot-summer windows or off-season storms.
Long-standing ties with property owners, masseria estates, the Roma Lazio, Apulia, Toscana and Venice Film Commissions and Cinecittà Studios mean the locations we recommend are not just photogenic. They are also doable inside the schedule and budget you are working to.
Every scout report is built to feed straight into your budget and incentive plan. We log day rates, access fees, and the rough permit cost for each shortlisted site. Where a region offers a cash rebate through its film commission, we flag how that location maps to the spend rules. This lets your line producer weigh a Tuscan villa against a Sicilian piazza on both look and cost. The package supports clean Tax Credit Cinema e Audiovisivo planning from the first round.
Bilingual coordination runs through the whole scouting job. Our scouts deal with comuni, the Soprintendenza, and private owners in Italian, then deliver every report and call in clear English. Your director and producer read each access note, ZTL route, and permit step without a translation gap. We carry the same two-way flow into recce visits and fee talks. This keeps a global team and the local Italian network fully aligned before the shortlist is locked.
FAQ
Location Scouting FAQ
Essential information for planning your location scouting project in Italy.
How long does location scouting take in Italy?
It really depends on what you need. For a simple commercial shoot, we can often turn around options in 2-3 days. Feature films usually need 1-2 weeks of focused scouting to cover every scene. Documentaries land in between, often 3-7 days. And if you are in a bind, we offer rush scouting with 24-48 hour delivery.
What permits are required for filming at Italian locations?
The permits you need depend on where you shoot and how big the shoot is. Local authorities require a filming permit for any public area. Owners of private sites must sign release forms for their property. Historic monuments and UNESCO sites have their own process through cultural affairs offices. We handle all of this for you, and it is one of the main reasons productions hire us.
What are typical location scouting costs in Italy?
Basic day-rate scouting runs between €300 and €500 per day. We also offer full packages that cover many sites along with documentation and permit handling, and those run €1,500-€6,000 based on scope. Remote locations cost more; figure €800-€2,500 per day for mountain or rural scouting. Permit fees themselves range from €150 to €1,500 based on the site.
Can you scout locations in remote areas of Italy?
Yes. We have several favourite spots well off the usual tourist trails. Our scouts work in the mountains, along the coast, through the rural countryside and across remote hill country. The team runs access reviews for far-flung shoots, and we handle gear transport and find good housing for crew working in the area.
How many location options will we receive?
For each scene or setup you need, we usually present 3-5 vetted options. These aren't random picks; each one has been checked for logistics, permit availability and budget fit. We would rather give you fewer, stronger options than bury you in places that won't actually work.
What documentation do you provide for each location?
Each location package holds many high-resolution photos shot from several angles, plus survey data on power, access points and facilities. It also covers logistics: parking, service points and any site limits. For trickier locations, we add site maps and suggested camera positions based on the light.
