SCENE 01 / COMMUNICATION SYSTEMS

Communication Systems

Professional on-set communication equipment keeping your production coordinated and running smoothly.

Scroll

Production communication kit keeps every department in step across sets, stages, and remote locations. Pro intercom systems, walkie-talkies, and wireless networks link the crew in real time through the shooting day. That covers directors, assistant directors, camera, sound, and production management.

We supply and set up communication packages scaled to your crew size and location. Our team plans the channels, hands out the gear, and runs the tech setup. That way your departments stay in touch from the first call to wrap each day.

On Location

Licensed comms across Italian stages, streets and mountain units

Production communication in Italy has to cover a wide range. A single-camera Centro Storico day in Rome, where AD calls bounce off marble facades, sits at one end, and a multi-unit Dolomites feature spread across valley locations sits at the other. Our rental packages source Motorola digital handhelds, Clear-Com and Riedel intercom systems, surveillance earpieces, and IFB feeds. These come from EM srl and the inventory at Panalight Rome and Milan. We scale them from 30-radio commercial packages up to 80-plus radio feature rigs.

Italian sound mixers from the AITS network plan the channels with the AD department. Repeater positions are mapped against the solid walls of palazzi, churches, and Cinecittà stages. Waterproof handsets ship as standard for shoots on the Venice canals, Lake Como, or the Amalfi coastline. Humidity and spray there defeat consumer-grade kit.

Italian frequency licensing routes through the Ministero delle Imprese e del Made in Italy and the local Ispettorati Territoriali. Lead times differ by region. Rome and Milan license fastest, while mountain valleys and island shoots need longer windows. We file the applications early and plan channels around nearby shoots on busy Cinecittà and Mediaset weeks. Pre-programmed gear ships with battery banks, chargers, and backup units sized to the schedule. Multi-unit shoots get a separate channel group per unit, plus cross-unit channels for key staff. These tie into wireless video village feeds at Lumiq Turin and FrameByFrame post houses when dailies need to reach Rome the same day. Our coordinator stays on call through wrap to handle any field repairs.

The comms gear we supply in Italy is built to broadcast standard. We carry Motorola digital handhelds, Clear-Com and Riedel intercom systems, and surveillance earpieces in working stock. IFB feeds reach talent, and camera talkback links the video village. Waterproof handsets ship as standard for Venice canal, Lake Como, and Amalfi Coast shoots. Each radio is set up and charged at the depot, so your crew connects from the first call of the day.

Our rental-house network scales packages to your crew size and locations. A single-camera Rome day might need thirty radios, while a Dolomites feature needs eighty or more. Repeater spots are mapped against the thick walls of palazzi, churches, and Cinecittà stages. We survey tough sites in advance to spot coverage gaps. Battery banks, chargers, and backup units ship sized to the schedule, so no department drops off air on a long day.

Italian sound crew set the channels alongside your AD department. They plan a separate channel group per unit, with cross-unit links for key staff. Multi-unit Dolomites and coastal shoots get their own full gear package each. The systems tie into wireless video village feeds when dailies must reach Rome or Milan the same day. Our coordinator stays on call through wrap, handling batteries, gear upkeep, and any field repair the schedule throws up.

FAQ

Production Communication Expertise

What communication systems do you provide?

We supply full communication solutions, from two-way radios (Motorola digital and analog) to production headsets, Clear-Com and Riedel intercom systems, IFB feeds for talent, and specialty planning systems. The gear ranges from basic walkie-talkies through complete broadcast intercom rigs.

How many radios do I need for my production?

It depends on your crew size and how complex the shoot is. A typical feature needs 30-80 radios to cover every department. Our team reviews your needs and suggests the right quantities with backup units. We can add more gear during production as you need it.

Can you provide coverage in remote locations?

Yes. We design systems for tough locations using repeaters, long-range gear, and multi-site planning. When we can, our team surveys the site in advance to spot coverage gaps and bring the right solution.

Do you handle frequency licensing in Italy?

We arrange all frequency licensing with the Italian authorities (ANFR). This covers short-term production licenses, frequency planning, and compliance records. Lead time differs by location and by which frequencies are free.

What about intercom systems for video village?

We provide full video village communication, including director-to-set links, camera talkback, script supervisor lines, and department planning. The systems can tie into wireless video for complete tracking and coordination.

How do you handle equipment for multiple units?

For multi-unit shoots, we build communication plans with separate channels per unit, shared frequencies for key staff, and cross-unit planning channels. Each unit gets its own full gear package.

Productions in Italy that need this often pair it with Lighting Equipment Rental, Data Management Systems, and Monitoring Equipment Rental for full coverage. Most projects also draw on Wireless Microphone Systems and Monitor & Video Village.
